Emma Watson used Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary to talk about one lesser-known part of the filming. Watson opened up about how she fell in love with Tom Felton.
The story of how Hermione Granger fell for Draco Malfoy is included in the upcoming reunion special Return to Hogwarts.
Emma, who was only 10 when she developed a crush on her costar, explained that she spent hours on set looking for Felton, who was 13 at the time.
She recalled:
“I walked into the room where we were having tutoring.”
“The assignment that had been given was to draw what you thought God looked like, and Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard. And I just don’t know how to say it – I just fell in love with him.”
Though nothing ever happened romantically, the two actors still care for each other.
Felton knew that young Emma had a crush, but of course, she saw her as a “‘little sister.” He became more protective, explaining:
“Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her, and that continues to the day. There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.”
Emma added:
“I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet, it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day.”
It’s not the first time Watson said she had a thing for Tom. On The Jonathan Ross Show in 2012, she confessed that she had a crush, so the tabloids used it to connect the two.
Despite the rumors, the two never dated but remained close friends for a decade, ever since the filming of the Harry Potter series ended.
You can watch the reunion on HBO Max, Sky, and NOW on 1 January.
