‘The Ultimatum’ Season 1 Cast: Where Are They Now?
Eight Ultimatums later! The first season of The Ultimatum made waves when it premiered, but did the bold premise work for any of the couples?
The Netflix show followed eight duos on the brink of an engagement. After an Ultimatum is issued by one person in the relationship, they begin a trial marriage with one of their costars, living with a new partner of their choice from the show for three weeks. At the end of the three-week period, they move in with their original significant other and must decide whether they want to stay together and get engaged, leave solo or pursue things with their trial marriage partner.
Madlyn Ballatori and Colby Kissinger were one of the only couples in which the man gave the Ultimatum. Fans were shocked when the twosome not only got engaged in the April 2022 finale but also tied the knot moments later.
“At the end of filming, we talked everything out. I mean, every single detail we’re, like, ‘We are married, there can be no secrets,’” Madlyn told Us Weekly in March 2022. “So I don’t know if we were really surprised by anything [watching it back]. I guess we were more surprised by, like, what was chosen to be left in verses left out. It was better than we expected, honestly.”
Colby told Us that he was always planning to give Madlyn the chance to get married moments after he proposed if she said yes.
“Once I knew I was committed in [the] engagement, I knew I was ready for the next big thing, which was marriage and, like, wasting another beat when you got it right there on the biggest stage? Why not take advantage of the opportunity?” he said to Us. “And I figure since she said yes to the engagement, why not say yes to the marriage.”
Madlyn added that she didn’t have any hesitations.
“I knew that going into it, if I was gonna say yes to the proposal, I’ve gotta be ready to fully give it all,” she explained. “I think you saw I was kind of, like, ‘What the heck, let’s do it.’ I never wanted a big wedding anyways.”
The duo haven’t wasted any time taking the next step, either. Madlyn is pregnant with their first child.

Madlyn Ballatori and Colby Kissinger
The couple are expecting their first child — a baby girl. Madlyn told Us on March 30, 2022, that she was 35 weeks. “I am ready to have my girl. Just the past couple weeks, I’m, like, ‘Get this baby outta me!’” she said. “But I love being pregnant. I mean, this is, it’s been such a blessing.”
Colby added, “Through it all, she’s done a great job of handling everything.”
The twosome also plans to have a bigger wedding with their family and friends in one year.
Shanique Imari and Randall Griffin
The pair broke up for six months after the show wrapped. They are back together but have called off their engagement.
“Unfortunately, I was very, very anxious [on the proposal day] because from my view, I mean, all I felt and saw was that he was connecting with someone else,” Shanique told Us in March 2022. “And obviously, you know, there was a possibility that his mind wouldn’t change at the end of it. So I was genuinely happy and surprised that he did propose, [but] I don’t even know. It was just a whirlwind of emotions, honestly, this entire experience.”
When asked about their current timeline, Randall told Us to “stay tuned.”
Following her breakup with Jake, April is dating a real estate broker based in Austin. She told Us that she was set up with him by a friend of hers who works at his agency.
“I would not waste my time with anyone that I don’t see myself being with long-term,” she gushed. “So, I 1,000 percent adore this man. And I’m very happy.”
While Jake and Rae left the show together after falling for each other during their trial marriage, they didn’t end up taking the trip that he proposed during the finale.
“It’s not that she didn’t wanna go on the trip, we just — we both agreed that we needed to take time to figure stuff out. Cause after the show ended, I had to figure out stuff with April, had to get closure with that [and] she had to do the same thing with Zay,” Jake told Us in March 2022. “So honestly, we just pushed it back and then it just eventually just never happened.”
Jake added that he feels “like something could happen down the road” with Rae, whom he keeps in contact with. “We’re still good friends. We see each other occasionally from here and there,” he said at the time.
Sharing her perspective of the vacation that never happened, Rae told Us: “After Jake offered me the trip, and everything wrapped up, I asked him to go to lunch and we were grabbing food [the] same day and I just told him, like, ‘It’s a lot.’ And, of course, he still had feelings for April and I still had feelings for Zay. And I felt like even though it’s just a reality show to everybody, it was real for us. It was a lot, it was very draining. So I didn’t think it would be the best thing to be like, ‘Bye Zay, bye April, we’re hopping on a plane and just going to, you know, wherever!’ I didn’t feel like it was the right time.”
She added that she and Jake “are definitely good” as of March 2022.
“Jake is just a total gem, like, he’s a gentleman,” Rae continued. “I think that he absolutely deserves the world. I think him and I both just need a little bit of time to heal, especially with the show now coming out, it’s reopening a lot of old emotions. His DMs are closed ladies. Don’t DM him. Give him some time, that’s where we’re at. I care for him a lot and I just wanna see him be happy.”
During the reunion in April 2022, Rae revealed that she has been seeing a woman. “She’s amazing. I had a really good connection with her,” she said, noting that she’s keeping it “casual” as she figures out her sexuality as a bisexual woman.
According to Rae, she and Zay aren’t on speaking terms. “He is blocked on everything. I think that he should have, you know, given me more of a heads-up,” she told Us, referring to him sleeping with Shanique during their trial marriage, in March 2022. “No apology, no reaching out. No, ‘I’m sorry that you had to see it this way.’ Nothing remorseful coming from him, we have not spoken.”
He is single.
Lauren Pounds and Nathan Ruggles
The duo are still engaged after leaving The Ultimatum early.
Alexis Maloney and Hunter Parr
The pair are set to exchange vows in summer 2022 after their early exit.
“Immediately after getting engaged, we moved to California. So we got an apartment in L.A. and we’ve been planning our wedding. We’re getting married in summer of this year, which we’re really excited about because not only we’ll be able to celebrate our engagement and marriage, but we’re also able to share with everybody, which we’re looking forward to,” Alexis told Us in March 2022. “And so it’s been busy, moving from Texas to California, starting to plan for a wedding. We have a dog together. It’s been moving fast, but it’s flown by cause we’re having a lot of fun.”
