Janelle Monáe Reveals to Jada Pinkett-Smith that She’s ‘Non-Binary’ & Not a Woman Soley
When it comes to defining the perimeters of sexuality and what a nuclear family should be, all four members of the Pinkett-Smith family seem to have broken the mold in a rather theatrical fashion. So, when Janelle Monáe made a guest appearance on Red Table Talk featuring Jada Pickett-Smith and her daughter, Willow Smith, it seemed like a very appropriate time for the androgynous soul singer to reveal to the entire world that she no longer views herself strictly as a woman. Instead, the 36-year-old indicated that her sexual identity often fluctuates from one side of the gender spectrum to the other.
“I’m non-binary,” Monáe said. “I just don’t see myself as a woman…solely…I feel all of my energy. I feel like God is so much bigger than the he or the she.”
In the past, Monáe has touched on her sexuality in songs like “Make Me Feel” and she has even used terms like ‘pansexual’ to describe the way in which she is romantically attracted to people based on their connections rather than their gender.
