Jazz Assistant Coach Keyon Dooling Arrested in NBA Fraud Scheme

Utah Jazz assistant coach Keyon Dooling, who was once the National Basketball Players Association vice president, was arrested on Wednesday (April 27), along with 18 other former NBA players. They are accused of illegally pocketing millions of dollars by defrauding the league’s health and welfare benefit plan.

The case was first brought in October, and Dooling’s name was added to the indictment, along with 3 others, after federal officials say a number of former players tried to collect about $2.5 million from the benefit plan. As for Dooling, investigators claim that he pocketed $350,000 of plan proceeds illegally.

A doctor and dentist were the other people added to the case, as federal investigators say they facilitated the scheme. They were charged with health care fraud and wire conspiracy for fraud that occurred from at least 2017 to 2020.

More details to come.
