Elle Smith has made history by becoming the first African-American woman to win Miss USA 2021. For the past three years, the winners have all been Black women, and Smith will now participate in the 2018 Miss Universe pageant.
She defeated 50 ladies from throughout the country to win the Miss USA crown this year.
She performed admirably in the swim suit and evening gown contests, as well as in the question and answer segment, where she articulated how organisations should be more ecologically conscientious.
Smith began working as a local TV reporter at Louisville ABC station WHAS11 in October 2020 after graduating from the University of Kentucky with a B.A.
in Broadcast Journalism and a degree in Political Science. Smith has had an interest in storytelling since she was a teenager.
She was the vice president of the National Association of Black Journalists chapters at the University of Kentucky during her college years, as well as a reporter and cameraman for school publications.
She enjoys travelling and has lived in many locations for internships and studies.
Smith, who won Miss Kentucky in May 2021, will compete in the Miss Universe pageant in Eilat, Israel, to represent the United States.
