Former Virginia Tech Li’nebacker Found Not G’uilty In De’ath Of Ti’nder Date

The former Virginia Tech linebacker ac’cused of mu’rdering his male Ti’nder date after mistaking him for a woman was ac’quitted on Friday.

Isimemen Etute, 19, was found not g’uilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court for the d’eath of 40-year-old Jerry Smith.

Etute matched with someone named “Angie Renee” on Tinder. The former football player went to Smith’s apartment to receive o’ral s’ex in April of 2021.

Etute returned to Smith’s apartment the following month to verify “Angie’s” gender. He gr’oped Smith and determined that he was a man. Etute testified that he saw Smith reach for a w’eapon and begin be’ating him.

In’vestigators later located a k’nife under Smith’s mattress. He later d’ied of his in’juries, including b’roken facial b’ones and mi’ssing teeth.

Etute was a’rrested in June of last year and ch’arged with second-degree m’urder. He was sus’pended indefinitely from the Virginia Tech football team following the c’harges.
