Demi Lovato recently opened up about how they ended up In a re’hab stint three years after ov’erdose. Lovato’s return to rehab came after they told fans that being “California sober” — imbibing al’cohol and smoking m’arijua’na — would no longer work for them.
“I’ve definitely been through a ton. That’s no secret to the world,” Lovato told the talk show host.
“After going through even more stuff last year — I came out of treatment again — and I realized I really want to do this for myself, and I want to make the best album possible,” they continued.
Since last December, there have been rumors that Lovato will return to rehab in 2021. However, this is the first formal confirmation from the artist that they were in treatment at the time.

They went on to say that they are now totally so’ber, and have been for the whole time they were working on their upcoming album ‘Holy F’VCK’.
“Something that really represents who I am, and I think the best way to do that — and the easiest way to do that, and the most authentic — is to do it clean and sober,” Lovato said, adding: “I made this album clean and sober. I can’t say that about my last album, but this one I’m really proud about.”
The former Disney actress has a long history of substance ab’use. They decided to keep ‘California sober’ after nearly dy’ing from an opioid overdose in 2018. This meant they would only drink wine and consu’me pot.
Lovato, on the other hand, took to Instagram in December 2021 to notify their fans that they were “no longer” going to be “California sober,” but would instead be “totally sober.”
“Sober sober is the only way to be,” they wrote at the time. A month later, reports began to emerge that the singer had checked into rehab for the third time – reports which we now know to be true.
Since then, it looks like Lovato has made a pretty good go at keeping “sober sober”. Their eighth studio album ‘Holy FVCK’ will be released later this summer.
