90s R&B singer, Jesse Powell has passed away at the age of 51. Jesse Powell’s sister, Tamara Powell, took to her Instagram account to make the announcement last night, stating, “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle. According to Tamara’s post, Jesse passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home, but the family has yet to disclose information relating to the cause of his passing. Sadly, Jesse Powell had just celebrated his 51st birthday the day before.

Tamara followed up with a throwback post of her brother singing his classic ‘You.’ In the caption, she praised his voice, sharing, ‘Aside from being one of the best R&B male vocalists out there, you were the best big brother ever […] We absolutely adore you ‘Jet’ & our family will not be the same without you.”
Jesse Powell was born on September 12, 1971 in Gary, Indiana, and raised with his three siblings, Tamara, Trina and Jacob . The R&B singer merged onto the scene in 1996 with his debut single ‘All I Need’ from his self-titled album, Jesse Powell, which peaked at #32. In 1998, the R&B singer released his sophomore album ‘Bout It,’ which scored him his biggest single to date, ‘You.’ ‘You’ became a massive success reaching the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and peaking at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart. Not to mention one of the most played wedding anthems at the time. The ballad went on to help Jesse Powell’s sophomore album reach gold status, selling over 500,000 copies. Following his sophomore success, the late singer released two more albums, ‘JP’ in 2000 and ‘Jesse in 2003.
Following the news of Jesse Powell’s passing, fans took to social media with tributes to the late singer. Some individuals shared who they had wished for the late singer to sing at their wedding. Some fans even pointed out how they never knew Tamara and Jesse were siblings. For those that may not remember, Jesse Powell’s sister Tamara was in the R&B group ‘Trina & Tamara’ along with her sister, Trin Powell. In ’97, the Powell sisters appeared on Something for The People’s ‘My Love Is The Shhh which was a massive success reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Chart.
