I received an unexpected call from my gynecologist’s office one morning, informing me that my scheduled appointment had been rescheduled for that same morning. With only 45 minutes to spare, I rushed to get ready, knowing I wouldn’t have time for my usual pre-appointment routine.
I hastily washed up and got dressed before speeding to the doctor’s office. Luckily, I didn’t have to wait long before being called in for my appointment. As I settled into the examination table, I tried to distract myself by thinking of a more pleasant place.
The doctor’s next comment caught me off guard. “You’ve certainly made an effort this morning, haven’t you?” I chose not to respond, hoping to brush off the awkwardness.
After the appointment, I returned home and went about my day as usual. Later, while my six-year-old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, asking about her washcloth. I told her to grab another one from the cupboard, but she insisted on finding the one that had been by the sink, claiming it had her “glitter and sparkles” inside.
I was mortified as I realized what must have happened. The washcloth I had used earlier was likely the same one my daughter was looking for, and I had inadvertently taken it with me to the doctor’s office. I couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation, and I knew then that I would never be able to show my face at that doctor’s office again.
