In a surprising turn of events during the 80th Anniversary Commemorations of D-Day, Queen Camilla wore an outfit that bore a striking resemblance to one of Princess Diana’s iconic looks, igniting a lively debate among royal fans.
Queen Camilla made quite an impression at the event, held in Portsmouth on June 6. She wore an ensemble reminiscent of a famous outfit Princess Diana sported in the 1980s. Camilla’s choice of a pale pink coat dress paired with brown shoes and a matching hat stood out among the more traditional dark suits and military uniforms.
At the solemn service, where the 76-year-old Queen was accompanied by King Charles and Prince William, her bold outfit choice raised eyebrows. Traditionally, royal women wear black or dark colors for military memorial events, but Camilla’s pink attire suggested she had her reasons for this deviation.
This ensemble might have been a tribute, especially considering that Camilla, King Charles, and Prince William planned to continue their commemorations with a visit to Normandy, France. This trip holds special significance as it is King Charles’ first visit since his cancer diagnosis was publicly announced in February.
Interestingly, Camilla had worn the same outfit during a state visit to France in September 2023. During that trip, she and King Charles were welcomed by President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, when they landed at Orly Airport for a three-day visit.
Camilla accessorized her pink outfit with a four-strand pearl necklace featuring a diamond clasp, adding an elegant touch to her look for the D-Day commemorations.
Much like the late Queen Elizabeth, who often wore bright colors to stand out in crowds, Camilla’s choice ensured she remained visible among the sea of attendees. Notably, other prominent figures, including actress Helen George and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murty, also wore pink, adding a splash of color to the event.
What truly caught the public’s eye was the similarity of Camilla’s outfit to one worn by Princess Diana in 1983 during a visit to Newcastle, Australia, with then-Prince Charles. Diana’s outfit, while similar, did not include a long pink coat and featured white shoes and a bouquet.
The fashion déjà vu sparked a spirited debate among royal fans, who took to social media to share their opinions on which of King Charles’ wives wore it better. On Facebook, supporters of both women passionately defended their favorites in side-by-side comparison photos.
