Tragedy Strikes: A Family’s Heartbreaking Loss in Hurricane Helene’s Aftermath

The devastating effects of Hurricane Helene continue to unfold, claiming the lives of at least 135 people, with the Carolinas bearing the brunt of the damage. Amidst the destruction, a heartbreaking story of loss and resilience has emerged.

Megan Drye, a mother from Ashville, North Carolina, survived the flood that swept away her 7-year-old son, Micah, and her parents. Her sister, Jessica Drye Turner, shared the family’s tragic experience on Facebook.

Jessica revealed that Micah’s final words were, “Jesus! Please help me!” before being taken by the floodwaters. His body was found 1/4 mile from where Megan was rescued.

Megan, who was lodged between two trailers for three hours before being rescued, now faces a long and difficult road to recovery. Jessica expressed her grief and guilt, yet found solace in her faith, believing that her parents and nephew are at peace with Jesus.

A GoFundMe page was set up by Heather, Megan’s sister, to support Megan, who lost everything in the tragedy. The page features a poignant photo of Micah, taken by his grandmother just before the storm.

As the nation mourns the loss of life and property, schools and institutions took precautionary measures to ensure safety. Fifteen schools in Georgia closed, and Governor Brian Kemp declared a State of Emergency for all 159 counties.

Florida schools also suspended classes, bracing for the hurricane’s impact. The storm’s catastrophic effects were forecasted to be “life-threatening” and “unsurvivable.”

Our deepest condolences go out to Micah’s family and all those affected by Hurricane Helene’s devastation.

A Community Comes Together

In the face of tragedy, the community rallies around Megan and her family, offering support and prayers. As they navigate the darkest of times, their faith and resilience inspire hope.
If you’d like to help, consider donating to the GoFundMe page or offering prayers for the family’s comfort and healing.
