Danielle Grobber, a beautiful and intelligent young woman, had always gotten her way. Her wealthy father spoiled her, and she believed his money was hers to spend. But Danielle’s entitled attitude soon caught up with her.
One day, while waiting for her father, Danielle ordered food at a fast-food restaurant and ate on the lawn of her father’s building. After finishing, she carelessly left her trash behind, only to be confronted by the janitor, Mr. Terence.
“Please pick up your trash and put it in the bin,” Mr. Terence requested. Danielle, taken aback, responded arrogantly, “People like you, the servant class, clean up for me. That’s your job!”
But her father, Jack Grobber, overheard the exchange and intervened. “Who do you think you are?” he asked Danielle. “How dare you humiliate this man?” Jack realized his daughter’s behavior was a result of his own indulgence.
To teach Danielle a lesson, Jack sent Mr. Terence on a two-week vacation to the Bahamas, courtesy of the company, and assigned Danielle to fill in for him. Danielle was horrified, refusing to clean toilets and sweep floors.
But Jack stood firm. “You will do his job while he is away,” he said. Danielle soon discovered the value of hard work, exhausted and with ruined nails after her first day.
By the time Mr. Terence returned, Danielle had transformed. She had learned to respect others, regardless of their profession. Jack’s tough love had paid off.
