I thought I knew my husband, Adam, inside and out. But when my manicurist, Lily, confided in me about her secret lover, I was shocked to discover it was Adam. Or so I thought.
That day, Adam had surprised me with a visit to Lily’s Luxe Nails. As I settled into the chair, Lily began sharing stories about her new beau. Successful, funny, and intelligent, he sounded perfect.
But then she mentioned his dimples and corporate job as a manager. My heart sank. Adam has dimples and works as a manager. I tried to brush it off as coincidence.
Lily showed me a photo of her mystery man, and my world crashed. It was Adam. I felt sick.
I forced a laugh and excused myself to the restroom, where I splashed water on my face. Anger replaced shock.
Determined to catch Adam and Lily in the act, I devised a plan with Lily’s husband, James. We would confront them at the hotel where they planned to meet.
As we stood outside the hotel, paint cans in hand, James questioned our scheme.
But when I burst into the room, I found a birthday party instead of a secret tryst. Balloons, streamers, and a banner reading “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY LOVE!” surrounded Adam, Lily, and our loved ones.
Mortified, I dropped the paint cans. “What…is this?”
Adam explained that they had been planning a surprise party for weeks.
Relieved and embarrassed, I cried. “I thought…”
Adam comforted me, “I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to deceive you.”
The party was a huge success, filled with laughter and emotional toasts. As we left the hotel, we found “CHEATER!!!!” scrawled on Adam’s car windshield in red lipstick.
I groaned, “I’m so sorry.”
Adam chuckled, “It’s washable. And a great story for our kids.”
We laughed and washed the car together. This birthday surprise was one to remember.
Sometimes, jumping to conclusions can lead to hilarious misunderstandings. But in the end, love and trust prevail.
