Country music legend George Strait was recently honored with the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 CMA Awards. The ceremony, held on November 20, saw George deliver a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to his loved ones, including his wife of 53 years, Norma.
George’s family, including his son Bubba, daughter-in-law Tamara, and grandchildren Jillian and Harvey, were in attendance, and he acknowledged their presence with affection. “I’m thrilled to have my family here tonight,” he said.
During his speech, George also thanked the CMA for recognizing him alongside iconic artists. He praised the performers who covered his songs, saying, “It’s amazing to hear y’all do them. I’m so glad I got ’em before you.” Notable artists Jamey Johnson and Miranda Lambert performed some of George’s hits during the event.
With 72 CMA wins and 83 nominations under his belt, George Strait’s legacy is unparalleled. He has been named Impact Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year multiple times.
George’s personal life has been marked by love and loss. He met his wife Norma in high school, and they married in 1971. The couple has two children, Jennifer Lyn and Bubba. Tragically, Jennifer passed away in a car accident at just 13. George and Norma established the Jennifer Strait Memorial Foundation in her memory.
Bubba, George’s son, has followed in his father’s footsteps, performing alongside him and contributing to his music. Bubba and his wife Tamara have two children, George “Harvey” Strait III and Jilliann Louise Strait.
George’s speech also paid tribute to his late managers, Erv Woosley and Tom Foote. As he accepted the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, George cemented his place as a country music icon, cherished by fans and fellow artists alike.
His enduring love for Norma and his family, coupled with his remarkable career, solidifies George Strait’s status as a true legend in the music industry.
