Tragedy Strikes on Ice: 17-Year-Old Hockey Player Connor Kasin Passes Away

A charity hockey match in New York took a devastating turn when 17-year-old player Connor Kasin collapsed on the ice and passed away. The incident occurred during an intermission at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, New York, where a charity match was being held to commemorate a fellow student who had passed away last year.

Connor, a senior student at Massapequa High School, was a talented hockey player who had participated in the charity match to honor the memory of Syosset High School graduate Sabrina Navaretta, who had died in a car crash in 2023. The match was intended to be a celebration of Sabrina’s life and a fundraising event for scholarship, dog rescue, and supporting grieving parents.

Tragically, Connor’s life was cut short when he lost consciousness on the ice during a break in the game. Despite immediate CPR and medical attention, Connor was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed, but police have stated that no foul play is suspected.

The news of Connor’s passing sent shockwaves through the community, with friends, family, and teammates mourning the loss of a bright and talented young life. Massapequa Public Schools Superintendent William Brennan informed parents and staff of Connor’s passing in a heartfelt letter, describing him as a “cherished member of our school community” known for his kindness, positivity, and enthusiasm.

Sabrina’s parents, who had organized the charity match, extended their condolences to Connor’s loved ones, expressing their own heartbreak and offering support during this difficult time. They urged Connor’s family and friends to “take the time to grieve and be kind” to themselves, reminding them that they are not alone in their sorrow.

As the community comes together to mourn the loss of Connor Kasin, his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the charitable causes he supported.
