The firefighters arrived promptly and carefully extracted the puppies from the drain. However, in their haste to rescue the puppies, they made a critical mistake that would have far-reaching consequences.
The puppies were taken to a local animal shelter, where a veterinarian delivered some astonishing news: the puppies were not puppies at all, but rather nine wild red fox kits. The veterinarian’s revelation left everyone stunned.
According to Travis Sauder, a Colorado Parks and Wildlife employee, red fox mothers often give birth to their litters in small, hidden spaces. It’s not uncommon for people to stumble upon these litters, especially during springtime when animals are raising their young.
