A Brave Little Girl’s Dream Comes True on Picture Day

For many children, picture day is an exciting event where they get to choose their own outfits. However, for some kids, it can be a daunting experience, especially if they’re worried about what others might think of their choice. But for three-year-old Kaylieann Steinbach, picture day was an opportunity to express herself and showcase her unique personality.

The night before picture day, Kaylieann’s parents had laid out a selection of clothes for her to choose from. But when she saw the options, her excitement quickly turned to disappointment. That was until she spotted her Superman and Supergirl costumes. Kaylieann has severe hearing loss and refers to the superheroes as “Pooterman” and “Pootergirl.” Without hesitation, she told her parents, “Pootergirl!”

Her father, Austin Steinbach, couldn’t resist his daughter’s enthusiasm. “Well, I couldn’t argue with that answer,” he said. And so, Kaylieann wore her Supergirl costume to picture day, complete with a doll in tow. She beamed with happiness as she posed for the photographers.

Austin revealed that Kaylieann often wears different costumes to school and that both the faculty and students eagerly await discovering which superhero suit she’ll wear each day. When Austin shared Kaylieann’s picture on Reddit, he was overwhelmed by the response. He received countless messages of support and encouragement from the deaf community.

Austin was touched by the outpouring of support. “I still haven’t been able to get through all the messages of support and kind words people have sent me,” he said. “I could never have imagined how much her picture could have touched so many.” Kaylieann’s bravery and confidence are an inspiration to many, and she’s proof that being different is what makes us special.

Please share this heartwarming story if you think Kaylieann’s determination to wear her Supergirl costume to picture day is admirable.
