Hayden Howard’s life was turned upside down when she discovered that her beloved English Mastiff, Jackson, had been brutally shot multiple times. What initially appeared to be bug bites turned out to be a horrific reality.
Howard recalled the fateful day when she called Jackson inside, only to find him covered in what she thought were bug bites. However, upon closer inspection, she was shocked to discover that Jackson had suffered numerous gunshot wounds.
Rushing Jackson to the veterinarian, Howard was met with a devastating diagnosis. The veterinarian found multiple small bullets, fired from a BB pistol, lodged in Jackson’s body. The extent of the injuries was staggering – 27 bullets were extracted, and 20 more had to be left in place.
The veterinarian had to shave most of Jackson’s fur to remove the plastic shells, and a further 20 bullet holes were found scattered throughout his body. In total, Jackson had suffered almost 70 gunshot wounds.
Assistant Chief Craig Hayes of the Seymour Police Department described the incident as “a very bad case” and “sad to see.” The police launched an investigation, tracing the source of the gunfire to a neighboring yard.
A search of the neighboring property uncovered a rifle, ammunition, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. A BB pistol and pellets were also found, linking the neighbor to the heinous crime.
Howard expressed her outrage and disgust at the brutality of the act, hoping that the perpetrator would face severe consequences. As Jackson continues to heal from his traumatic ordeal, Howard remains grateful for his resilience and prays for his speedy recovery.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of animal cruelty and the importance of treating such crimes with the severity they deserve.
