Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown shared a haunting final post before his death.

Fans of Alaskan Bush People have been left devastated following the death of reality TV star Matt Brown.

The former Discovery Channel personality was found dead in Washington state after emergency responders launched a search near the Okanogan River.

Brown, who spent years documenting his struggles with addiction, recovery, and mental health, had become one of the most recognizable members of the Brown family after appearing on Alaskan Bush People throughout its early seasons.

Now, following confirmation of his death, many fans have returned to his social media pages and YouTube channel, where one of his final public messages has taken on a heartbreaking new meaning.

Search efforts ended in tragedy

Concern first began growing after reports emerged that a man had disappeared near the Okanogan River in Washington.

According to information shared by authorities, a witness contacted emergency services after spotting a man sitting in shallow water near the river south of Oroville.

The witness later reported seeing the man fall face-down into the water before drifting away in the current.

Police, firefighters, and search crews responded immediately, but were initially unable to locate him.

As concern spread online, Matt’s brother Solomon Isaiah ‘Bear’ Brown began sharing emotional updates with followers.

At first, Bear said the family feared the missing individual could be Matt, although authorities had not officially confirmed an identity.

Days later, Bear returned with devastating news.

“They found a body in the river a few hours ago and it was positively identified as being Matt,” he said in a video shared online.

Bear also revealed that their younger brother Noah had been present when the body was recovered and helped identify him.

An autopsy is expected to determine the official cause of death.

Matt spent years speaking openly about addiction

Long before his death, Brown had publicly discussed his struggles with substance abuse.

The reality star entered rehabilitation in 2016 after recognizing his drinking had become a serious problem.

Speaking to People at the time, Brown admitted he could see himself heading down a dangerous path.

“I started drinking lightly and then it got to be more and more,” he said. “That’s when I saw the problem around the corner, and I didn’t want to be one of those guys.”

After completing treatment, Brown often spoke about recovery and the importance of self-awareness.

“I learned a lot about myself in those 35 days. I’ve turned my weakness into a strength,” he said after rehab.

Although he eventually stepped away from Alaskan Bush People in 2019, Brown continued sharing updates online.

His YouTube channel became a place where he documented life away from television, often speaking candidly about sobriety, healing, and personal growth.

Over time, he built a dedicated audience, amassing more than 65,000 subscribers and millions of views across hundreds of videos.

In his channel bio, Brown described his content as focusing on ‘self-growth, self-understanding, recovery, and useful entertainment.’

Family members remained concerned about his well-being

While Brown often projected optimism online, reports suggest those closest to him had ongoing concerns about his well-being, Hello reports.

Bear later revealed that he had recently spoken with Matt after unexpectedly running into him at Walmart.

According to Bear, Matt admitted he had relapsed. “He called me after that, and he said that he had fallen off the wagon,” Bear recalled.

“And I was like, ‘Well, get back on it, man. Everybody falls off. Just get back on it. Go to rehab if you’ve got to. You’ve got this.’”

In recent weeks, reports also emerged about troubling livestreams that alarmed some fans and family members.

Several outlets reported that relatives had become increasingly worried about Brown’s behavior before his death.

Despite speculation surrounding estrangement within the Brown family, Bear pushed back against suggestions that Matt had been abandoned.

According to reports, he said Matt had largely distanced himself by choice, while family members continued worrying about him and hoping he would recover.

Bear also urged people not to blame their mother, Ami Brown.

“Please be respectful to the family, to my mom especially,” he said. “Please don’t attack my mom. Mom cares very much for Matt and always has.”

The heartbreaking message fans are revisiting now

Following news of Brown’s death, many followers began revisiting some of his final videos.

One of the most widely discussed clips came from a video uploaded in July 2024.

In it, Brown spoke openly about difficult moments and the coping tools he learned during recovery.

“It’s really important to sit down figure out what’s going on and what to do about it so whenever that happens for me I remember my recovery training because I spent six months in rehab and I knew I really had to pay attention,” he said.

“I have very good counselors in all of my rehabs and I pull all of those recovery tools.”

Brown explained that he used cards to write down problems and possible solutions so he could reflect on them later.

“I’ve got some cards here that I’m using to write out the things I’m going through and then solutions for it so that I can check them later and see if it’s a good thing,” he said.

He later shared another video discussing how he used those same cards to put ‘toxic’ situations into perspective.

Both videos ended with the same message.

A message that many fans are now calling haunting in light of what happened next.

Before signing off, Matt looked into the camera and said: “All right, never give up, never surrender, guys.”

He also shared a final Instagram with the caption: “Hi friends! I’m so happy I was able to hang out with my friend Jaime yesterday, she moved here to the Okanogan County for the good schools and friendly people, and this is the first time we got to hang out since I’ve been on the mountain.

“A rumor has been going around about us and I want to put it to rest the rumor is that Jaimie and I where on the outs with each other, that came about because of a misunderstanding I am partly responsible for, so to clarify Jaime and I are not getting married, and we are not on the outs, We are just good friends and so I thought I’d share these pictures of us hanging out.

“I hope this finds y’all guys doing well. Thank you for all your support in these difficult times! Never give up, never surrender. J.3.16”
