An online dispute centered on a dress worn to one of Washington’s most prominent events of the year.
Jennifer Hegseth (“Rauchet) and her husband, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton on April 25, 2026.

Two days later, someone on the internet identified the pink-nude off-the-shoulder gown she was wearing from a non-designer retailer.
A Stunning Outfit for the Correspondents’ Dinner As they posed for the cameras during the occasion, Pete and Jennifer were beaming.
Her dress had enough glitter for the black-tie event thanks to its asymmetrical satin design and rhinestone adornment.

However, on April 27, X netizen Ella Devi said, “pete hegeseth’s wife wore a dress from temu to the white house correspondents dinner (i’m not joking) [sic],” alongside pictures of Jennifer wearing the gown and the identical dress that Temu had listed.
The garment cost about $14 according to the listing she cited. Shein also offers a virtually similar version for about $42, and the Daily Mail verified that it was also discovered on Amazon.
Regarding this assertion, Devi received a wide range of replies, some of which said that Temu had a reputation for imitating designer clothing.

Therefore, in the same conversation, she said, “‘wah wah wah temu steals designs!’ a) THIS dress design ORIGINATED on temu/shein b) hard for me to believe it’s not from temu given that the primary retailers of her bag are amazon and aliexpress.”
What Was Actually Said in the Comments The majority of online users didn’t care where the dress came from, notwithstanding her reaction.
One Facebook commentator offered a modest criticism, saying, “The model definitely wore it better.” His spouse was unable to complete the waist.

However, that was essentially the only voice that disagreed. The tone changed significantly in Jennifer’s favor after that.In her Temu outfit, she exuded elegance.
I frequently purchase their dresses and skirts; all you need to do is research the sizes,” someone commented.
Another put it simply, “What difference does it make where the dress came from and how much it cost.. she made the dress look like a million bucks [sic]…”

The atmosphere was the same on another Facebook post. “I love that she didn’t spend $2k on a dress…good on her 😁,” someone said.
“So much better than shower curtains and tablecloths, don’t you think?” said another internet user.
Another said, “I think it’s nice,at least she wasn’t flashing most of her body in almost naked outfits like some celebrities do [sic].” It’s Not the First Time

The Correspondents’ Dinner outfit may have garnered the most attention, but it seems to be part of a pattern Jennifer has been creating for some time. On January 25, 2025, Jennifer wore a long-
sleeved lilac outfit at Pete’s inauguration as the 29th U.S. Secretary of Defense.
Currently, a similar garment costs about $32.92 on Shein. She wore an emerald floor-length off-the-shoulder gown with vibrant designs at a state banquet in November of last year.
The same store has a comparable model for about $76.29.
Even further back, a June 2024 Instagram image featured Jennifer standing with Pete and Donald Trump while wearing a white wrap dress with blue palm leaf prints.
Shein offers a nearly identical suit for about $16.95. It’s unclear, though, if these clothes are genuinely from these kinds of shops.
In any case, she looks amazing in them. Sadly, Jennifer and her husband were unable to enjoy the evening for which they had dressed up.
A Summary of the Event on Saturday In case you missed it, an armed guy rushed a security checkpoint at the 2026 White House Correspondents’
Dinner at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, causing attendees to flee and Secret Service personnel to go into emergency mode.
First Lady Melania Trump and the president were “whisked away” in the chaos, and the president subsequently acknowledged that at first he was unaware of the gravity of the situation.
“I thought it was a tray that clattered on the ground,” he said to reporters during a hastily arranged White House press conference.
According to President Trump, neither he nor his team had any previous knowledge of the danger. “We wanted to stay tonight,” he continued. “I fought like hell to stay.”
When gunfire was heard inside the Washington Hilton at around 8:35 p.m. ET, people fled for their lives.
President Trump and Cabinet officials were quickly removed out of the room by Secret Service agents.
Wolf Blitzer of CNN was one among the witnesses; he was outside the ballroom when he seen a gunman firing a few feet away.
As police descended upon the area, he and scores of other people sought shelter. While wearing protective gear, a US Secret Service agent was shot and hit.
President Trump later claimed to have personally spoken with the agent, who was admitted to the hospital, and that they were in “great shape” because of their bulletproof vest.
No one else was hurt, according to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. President Trump made his first public remarks at 9:17 p.m., announcing on Truth Social that the accused gunman “has been apprehended.”
At 10:29 p.m., he followed up with a picture showing the suspect face down on the ground with his hands behind his back and video that seemed to show the beginning of the shooting.
The suspect was identified by US media, including CBS, by approximately 10:50 p.m.
A picture of law enforcement holding a suspect in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night was shared by President Trump on social media.
The president, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche convened a formal press conference at the White House at 10:30 p.m.
The suspect, according to him, looked like “a lone wolf.” Live footage of FBI officers gathering outside a Torrance, Los Angeles, suburb home connected to Allen started to surface shortly after 11:10 p.m.
As numerous members of the media and law enforcement arrived at the location, a police perimeter was set up.
CNN was informed by a neighbor who did not want to be named that he was unsure if Allen truly resided at the home.
Although he didn’t regularly see him, he mentioned that Allen had visited “a couple of days ago.”
According to the neighbor, Allen’s father is gregarious and talkative, and they communicate often.
The official charges, which include assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon and using a firearm during a crime of violence, were announced by US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro.
On Monday, Allen is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court. So just who is Allen?

The image that surfaced stood in stark contrast to the mayhem he was said to have caused. Allen works as a part-
time instructor at C2 Education, a test preparation and tutoring business, and was selected the company’s “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024, according to public records and a LinkedIn profile.
He is also identified as a Southern California-based video game developer. Allen is a formidable academic.
He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the esteemed California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2017 and a master’s degree in computer science from California State University-Dominguez Hills only a year ago.
At a press conference, Jeffery Carroll, the interim chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, stated that Allen “charged” a Secret Service checkpoint and “exchanged fire” with law officials while carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives.
According to Carroll, authorities think Allen fired a shot based on “preliminary information.”
Importantly, Carroll also disclosed that Allen is thought to have been a guest at the Washington Hilton, suggesting that he might have gotten permission to attend the event prior to the firing.
To find out what was inside, police have “secured a room” at the hotel.
Allen was taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment, according to authorities, although he was not hit by gunshot during the altercation.
According to Mayor Bowser, there is “no reason to believe at this time that anyone else was involved.” Allen’s past would be “thoroughly” investigated, according to FBI Director Kash Patel, who also asked the public to provide “any information whatsoever related to this event.”
The FBI is actively questioning witnesses and analyzing ballistics and a long gun that was found at the scene.
And then there’s this: according to Federal Election Commission records, Allen gave $25 to Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in October 2024.
Although investigators were cautious not to draw hasty conclusions, this information quickly sparked conjecture about motive.
“I am concerned, but I cannot be too worried because being president is ‘a dangerous profession.’” was President Trump’s typical direct reaction when asked if political violence worries him.
The shooting “unified” the room, he claimed. The White House Correspondents’ Dinner will be rescheduled.
The president assured us that the rescheduled event would be “safer,” and we are confident that the security effort will be unlike anything Washington has ever witnessed.
